Kingdom Without

Taken from "From A Compound Eye" 2006.

Lyrics Unknown.

From probably one of the most consistent albums and one my favourite Robert Pollard solo projects of the last few years "From A Compound Eye" comes the latest song in my on-going quest to review every Robert Pollard song I have. This sound has the distant rumbling sound of thunder underpinning a dark melody which eventually builds into a chorus and ends with Pollard on his own shouting "Alright! In The Kingdom Without!". As I say, its dark and swirly and a good song but not up there with the other classics from the album.

The chorus on this song rivals anything else on the album.

I feel commotion of the heart
stirring in the eggshell dark
pull me up to drag me all about
enter the kingdom without

Suddenly lost between straight and bent, in a place where the eyes look confused.
Do you run anywhere I choose for you? For [?????]
you don't have to pay,
every young man
gets the good fight.

And then can you make me see?
All of the options you're offering me?
Inside out, grinding/moving away,
wanna turn it around?
To find a helping hand?
Every old man
needs the flashlight.

I feel commotion of the heart
stirring in the eggshell dark
pull me up to drag me all about
enter the kingdom without

(Spoken: All right! Into the kingdom without!)

Oh, got it! It's:

Do you run anywhere I choose for you? For an arm or a leg?
You don't have to beg

(and so on)
