Christian Animation Torch Carriers

Taken from "Universal Truths and Cycles" 2002

"Sometimes her mother will work with her
But There's nothing wrong with her
There's nothing wrong with her
There's nothing wrong

So such is life that it writes itself
Trying to right itself
But There's nothing wrong with it
There's nothing wrong

And every single day without much to say
These apparitions raise a toast to their kind

The people who are these things
Are not afraid with you
And caring must go with the wisdom
Of their selections

Never can touch their sign language
So is the cost of sound barriers
Even as though she's still searching
For a cloud with a silver lining
We pray for her
She's burning slow
Out on a mission's light

Christian animation torch carriers
This is a shallow hole but faith makes it safe
Hiding inside a grave with no sound
No witness to see
With or without you

Christian animation torch carriers
However will you learn their sign language
However will you try to hide
Within their eyes?
Within them in life?"

A spooky sounding start to this classic later period GBV. The main song is a choppy staccato style that would later become prevalent in his Solo work. Some nice keyboards and a good song with a Kick-Ass Chorus. The song eventually builds to a great swirling climax. Great stuff.

The Weeping Bogeyman

Taken from "Universal Truths and Cycles" 2002

""Make it" comes alive
In my private glass tent
A portable mortuary
Going...
Going...
But not yet gone
'Cus when it does, it does and then...
The ancient practice
Of mourning the phantom
Do you really think he
Would choose to inhabit the pore
Where his container was planted?
...can't imagine that"

Another song just dripping with longing and feels like a small part of a musical epic. Short and consisting of mainly bobs voice, acoustic guitar and a keyboard but has the feeling of a song much bigger than its parts.

Eureka Signs

Taken from "Universal Truths and Cycles" 2002

"You tell me you've come to your senses
The coast is still in sight
Eureka signs - I'm slowing down
You had me to remind me
You told me to remind you

Hell in the eye of consensus
Approaching shreds of night
In bleakness, blind as the ocean's mind
You want to look behind you
You told me to remind you

The sinful eye
Offends you every time
Assailants' oversight
Their vision has no right
You want me to remind you

Every day it's the god awful same
I wanna go solo and drive

You told me to remind you"

A grand song from "Universal Truths and Cycles" and a great song with a very uplifting sound and a chorus that just soars. The band on this song sound as tight as hell and has a full sound, something that is lacking on some of Pollard solo work and experimental stuff. Good stuff. "I wanna go solo and drive", a sign of things to come?

Skin Parade

Taken from "Universal Truths and Cycles" 2002

"For Chrissakes, Charley
Send them your love
Pictures from happier times
When babies acted like babies
So did the grown-ups
The band played "We All Fall Down"
And some of us did...

Fly off the wheel
Travel highwired
There are movements necessary
Then there is unnecessary motion
It happens all the time
You can see it swim

In the skin parade

Where other objects move too
Right through you

To the other side
It is come alive!
It is come alive

In the skin parade
In the parade of skin

Celebrating this level
Of concrete movement

Wicked!"

Another Pollard song. Another Parade! The mans Parade Mad! Whats it with Parades! Starts with short acoustic bit with a tinkling of glass in the background and sounds like its recorded in a bar. I like that. The song then turns in a pulsing, industrial piece with off-kilter vocals with disturbing imagery of Skin on Parade. Are we all in the Skin Parade? Ends with a repeated word being shouted out.
