The Fink Swan (Swims Away)

Taken from "In Shop We Build Electric Chairs: Professional Music By Nightwalker" 1999

Lyrics Unknown

I fight Nightwalker stuff hard to get into. Its scrappy, mostly tuneless, recorded terribly, fuzzy, freeform. To be honest this is one of the more focused songs on this album. The melody, if there is one, goes all over the place, whilst a guitar is strummed to death in the background. A song. Not one of my favourite Pollard offerings. Harsh but even Rock God Bob has off songs/albums.

true this project is a little rough around the edges... still i find it one of bob's most challenging listens and for that he deserves praise... every time i listen to this album i seem to come away with a different feeling on the tracks... amazed and dogwood grains are definitely some of my faves

Pollard's over-modulated vocals kill me here. Dead serious: he sounds like a pissed-off Navajo shaman laying down a particularly vehement curse. Pure feel- and on that level (like Captain Beefheart's grunting or Lennon's hoarse asides), it works.

The scrappy, experimental side is very hit or miss, but this is one of my favorites off this release.
