Bob does his best Eddie Vedder impression here. Great talky section that sounds like some sort of Sci-Fi story. Quite a playful song here and not as bleakly dark as a lot of Circus Devil material.

Twilight Campfighter
Taken from "Isoliation Drills" 2001
"Twilight campfighter
You build your fire into an open wound
You want us to feel better
On these darker trails
With light revealing holy grails
To hike through dangerous weather
You need twilight eyes
Sunspot solider, you come from another day
Accept no pay
You want us to feel better
All for longing causes
Racing minds and lengthy pauses
All who must soon shed their veils
And wipe their eyes
As we vegetate and wait around for brighter days
And can dance contented to the sound of money
Could I have seen a sight
Much greater than your twilight eyes
That penetrate your silent lives (lies)
Twilight campfighter
We do congratulate
It's not too late
To make us all feel better
Under darker skies
With your twilight eyes"
This is my first "Isolation Drills" song that cropped up on "A Pollard A Day" and what song to start with. Amazingly powerful song. This is a very moving song. A stone cold Classic.

Still Worth Nothing
Taken from "Delicious Pie And Thank You For Calling" 2003
"Senseless child
See you now
Still worth nothing
Never stop, until it stops
Rise and shine
Fall in line
Still worth nothing
That we know seems to show
See him walking around
It's a known fact that
The only thing he knows is this
Hear him talking so loud
It's a rough world
And he can find out for himself, he'll see
Speed up, slow down, go all around
In the end
Came to see
Conveniently
Still worth nothing
After all, some must fall
See him walking around
It's a known fact that
The only thing he knows is this
Hear him talking so loud
It's a rough world
And he can find out for himself, he'll see
Speed up, slow down, go all around
In the end"
Why do hear suspicious minds at the start of this song? Then it jumps into Northside (remember them? Shall I take a trip?). Strange musical touchstones here. Then we are into pure GBV. As usual, catchy tune and 60s sounding. Not a bad little song here that could have easily stood nicely on any early GBV album.

Penumbra
Taken from "Coast To Coast Carpet Of Love" 2007

I really like this tuneful and quirky number from the amazing "Coast To Coast Carpet Of Love" album. There an old 60s or 70s song that Im reminded of but I cant put my finger on it but its a bit like "In the Jungle" oddly enough. Its great when the backing vocals and guitar kick in half way. Quirky, Fun and good song.
